The decision to euthanize is never an easy one and there are never clear answers as to when it's the
appropriate time.
At Unleashed we understand how difficult making that final decision can be and are devoted to helping our clients make choices that are best for their pet and family.
Unleashed uses the quality of life scale. Using a scale of 0-10 (0 = Unacceptable, 10 = Excellent), a
patient's quality of life can be assessed. A total of 35 or greater is an acceptable quality of life
for pets.
Hurt - is the patient in pain, in distress.
Hunger - is the pet eating enough? Is it able?
Hydration - is the pet dehydrated?
Hygiene - Is the pet kept clean? Does the pet have pressure sores?
Happiness - Does the pet express joy and interest? Is he responsive or depressed, lonely, anxious,
bored, or afraid.
Mobility - Can the pet get up without assistance? Does the pet need mechanical or human help?
Is the pet stumbling or having seizures?
More Good Days than Bad - When bad days outnumber good days, the pet's suffering is appreciable.
When a healthy human-animal bond is no longer possible.
Much of veterinary nutrition has been based on commercially prepared prescription diets that are
both expensive and nutritionally inferior. Unleashed believes there is a better way to provide
healthful nutrition to animals with medical conditions.
Whether a commercially prepared diet, a home cooked diet, or the addition of nutriceuticals/supplements, an appropriate dietary recommendation will be made to maintain the health and longevity of the pet.
Nutritional consultations will be recommended for such conditions as food allergy/sensitivity, irritable bowel syndrome, osteoarthritis, kidney disease, bladder stones, pancreatitis, etc.
Unleashed is dedicated to a healthful pet, including appropriate fitness programs and an ideal
body weight. Obesity in pets is associated with numerous medical conditions and diseases, yet 41% of
the pet population suffers from obesity.
At Unleashed, we provide extensive nutritional consultations, tailor made pet weight loss programs
including; diet and exercise recommendations.
